Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council is seeking a dedicated and passionate Children’s Independent Reviewing Officer (IRO) to join our dynamic Qualified Social Work team. In this pivotal role, you will ensure that the voices and views of children and young people are at the heart of decision-making processes regarding their care and welfare. You will play a crucial part in overseeing care plans, conducting reviews, and ensuring compliance with statutory requirements.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Conducting independent reviews of care plans for children and young people in care, ensuring they are appropriate, timely, and in the best interests of the child.
  • Facilitating meetings and consultations with children, families, and professionals to gather insights and feedback.
  • Monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of care plans, making recommendations for improvements where necessary.
  • Ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, regulations, and national standards.
  • Providing support and guidance to social workers and other professionals in relation to the IRO role.

To be successful in this role, you will need to possess the following qualifications and skills:

  • A recognized social work qualification (CQSW, DipSW, or equivalent).
  • Registration with Social Work England.
  • Significant experience in child protection and working with children in care.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with children and families.
  • Excellent analytical skills and the ability to make sound judgments based on evidence.
