Sefton Council is seeking a Children's Independent Reviewing Officer (IRO) to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will play a crucial part in ensuring that children in care receive the support and advocacy they need, promoting their welfare, and enhancing their life chances.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Conducting independent reviews of care plans for children and young people in care.
  • Ensuring that the views and wishes of children and young people are heard and considered in decision-making processes.
  • Monitoring the effectiveness of care plans and making recommendations for improvements.
  • Collaborating with social workers, families, and other professionals to promote positive outcomes for children.
  • Maintaining accurate records and reports in compliance with statutory requirements.

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications and skills:

  • A recognized social work qualification (e.g., DipSW, CQSW, or equivalent).
  • Registration with Social Work England.
  • Extensive experience in children’s social work, particularly with looked-after children.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with children and families.
  • Sound knowledge of relevant legislation, policies, and procedures affecting children in care.
