An opportunity is available for a qualified social work professional to join a busy Multi-Agency Safeguarding Hub (MASH) supporting children, young people and families. As Assistant Team Manager, you will help lead the day-to-day operation of the team, ensuring referrals are screened, information is gathered and safeguarding concerns are responded to promptly and effectively. You will work closely with social workers and partner agencies, including police, health, education and other professionals, to support sound decision-making and appropriate outcomes for children.

Your responsibilities will include providing oversight, guidance and professional support to staff; assisting with the allocation and prioritisation of referrals; contributing to strategy discussions and management decisions; and ensuring assessments and interventions are completed in line with statutory requirements, local procedures and professional standards. You will promote a child-centred, strengths-based approach, ensuring children’s voices, experiences and welfare remain central to all activity. The role will also involve identifying and escalating risk, supporting quality assurance, contributing to service development and deputising for the Team Manager when required.

You will need a recognised social work qualification and current registration with the appropriate professional regulator, together with substantial experience in children’s social care and safeguarding. Experience of working in a MASH, referral and assessment, or similarly fast-paced statutory environment is highly desirable. You should have strong knowledge of safeguarding legislation, thresholds, information-sharing protocols and assessment frameworks, along with the confidence to make proportionate decisions in complex situations. Excellent communication, organisation and analytical skills are essential, as is the ability to build effective relationships across agencies and support colleagues through supervision, coaching and reflective practice. A commitment to equality, inclusion and improving outcomes for children and families is expected.
