An exciting opportunity is available for a qualified Children’s Social Worker to join a Youth Offending Team in Plymouth. You will work with children and young people who are involved, or at risk of becoming involved, in the criminal justice system, helping them address the factors contributing to offending and achieve positive, sustainable change. The role requires a child-centred, strengths-based approach, with a strong focus on safeguarding, reducing reoffending and promoting better outcomes for young people, their families and the wider community.
Your responsibilities will include completing assessments, preparing and reviewing intervention plans, managing a varied caseload and undertaking direct work with children, young people and their parents or carers. You will contribute to pre-court and statutory processes, prepare high-quality reports for court and other relevant panels, and ensure that all work is completed accurately, within required timescales and in line with legislation, policy and professional standards. You will also identify and respond to safeguarding concerns, assess risk, and work proactively with education, health, police, probation, housing and other partner services to coordinate effective support.
You must hold a recognised Social Work qualification and current registration with Social Work England, together with relevant experience of working with children, young people or families. Experience within a youth offending, children’s services, safeguarding or related statutory setting would be advantageous. The successful candidate will demonstrate sound knowledge of child protection, risk assessment and evidence-based interventions, along with excellent communication, report-writing and relationship-building skills. You will need to work confidently both independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team, remain organised under pressure and maintain a clear commitment to anti-discriminatory practice, participation and improved outcomes for young people.
