Sefton Council is seeking a dedicated and passionate Children's Independent Reviewing Officer (IRO) to join our dynamic Qualified Social Work team. This vital role will involve ensuring that the voice of the child is at the heart of all decision-making processes, promoting their welfare and safeguarding their best interests. As an IRO, you will oversee the care planning process for children in care, ensuring that their needs are met and that they have a clear understanding of their rights.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Conducting regular reviews of care plans and ensuring compliance with statutory requirements.
  • Facilitating and chairing child protection conferences and reviews.
  • Working collaboratively with social workers, families, and other professionals to promote the best outcomes for children.
  • Ensuring that children's views and wishes are heard and considered in all decisions affecting their lives.
  • Maintaining accurate and up-to-date records in accordance with local and national guidelines.

To be considered for this role, candidates must possess the following essential qualifications and skills:

  • A recognized social work qualification (e.g., Degree in Social Work, DipSW, or equivalent).
  • Registration with Social Work England.
  • Significant experience working with children and families in a statutory setting.
  • Strong knowledge of relevant legislation, policies, and procedures related to child welfare.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
