West Berkshire is seeking a qualified Children’s Independent Reviewing Officer (IRO) to join our Child Protection (CP) Team. This role is vital in ensuring that children in care receive the highest standard of advocacy and support to promote their welfare and well-being.

As a Children’s IRO, you will be responsible for overseeing and reviewing the care plans of children and young people in the local authority’s care. Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Conducting regular reviews of care plans in line with statutory requirements.
  • Ensuring that the voice of the child is heard and incorporated into decision-making processes.
  • Collaborating with social workers, families, and other professionals to promote best practices.
  • Monitoring the effectiveness of care plans and making recommendations for improvements.
  • Providing guidance and support to children and their families during the review process.

To be considered for this position, you must possess the following essential qualifications and skills:

  • A recognized social work qualification (BA/MA in Social Work, DipSW, or equivalent).
  • Registration with Social Work England.
  • Significant experience in child protection and working with children in care.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively engage with children, families, and professionals.
  • Ability to analyze complex information and make informed decisions.
