Durham County Council is seeking a dedicated and experienced Children's Independent Reviewing Officer (IRO) to join our dynamic Qualified Social Work team. In this vital role, you will ensure that the voices of children and young people are heard and their rights upheld within the care system. Your expertise will contribute to the continuous improvement of care planning and safeguarding practices.
As a Children's IRO, your key responsibilities will include:
- Conducting independent reviews of care plans for children and young people in care, ensuring compliance with statutory requirements.
- Facilitating meetings with children, families, and professionals to gather feedback and promote collaborative decision-making.
- Monitoring the progress of care plans and ensuring timely interventions when necessary.
- Providing expert advice and guidance to social workers and other professionals involved in the care of children.
- Maintaining accurate records and preparing reports for management and regulatory bodies.
To be considered for this position, you must possess the following essential qualifications and skills:
- A recognized social work qualification (CQSW, DipSW, or equivalent).
- Current registration with Social Work England.
- Significant experience in children’s social work, particularly in the context of child protection and looked-after children.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with children and families.
- Excellent analytical and report-writing skills.
