Portsmouth City Council is seeking a dedicated and passionate Children’s Independent Reviewing Officer (IRO) to join our dynamic Qualified Social Work team. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for ensuring that children in care receive the highest standards of advocacy and support, facilitating effective reviews of their care plans, and promoting their rights and best interests. Key responsibilities include:

  • Conducting and chairing independent reviews for children in care, ensuring their voices are heard.
  • Collaborating with social workers, foster carers, and other professionals to develop and implement care plans.
  • Monitoring the effectiveness of care plans and making recommendations for improvements.
  • Providing training and support to staff on best practices in child advocacy and reviewing processes.
  • Maintaining accurate records and documentation in line with statutory requirements.

To be considered for this role, you must possess:

  • A recognized social work qualification (BA/MA in Social Work, DipSW, or equivalent).
  • Registration with Social Work England.
  • Significant experience in child protection and working with children in care.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with children and families.
  • A comprehensive understanding of relevant legislation and statutory guidance.
