We are seeking a qualified Children’s Social Worker to join a dedicated Looked After Children (LAC) team in Southend-on-Sea. This is a permanent opportunity for an experienced and committed professional who is passionate about improving outcomes for children and young people in care. You will manage a varied caseload, promote children’s safety and wellbeing, and ensure that their voices, wishes and feelings remain central to all planning and decision-making.

Your responsibilities will include completing high-quality assessments, developing and reviewing care plans, contributing to statutory reviews, and maintaining accurate, timely case records. You will work closely with children, families, foster carers, residential placements, schools, health professionals and other partner agencies to coordinate effective support. You will monitor placements, identify and respond to safeguarding concerns, promote permanence, and help children maintain positive relationships and connections wherever this is safe and appropriate. The role will also involve preparing reports for meetings and panels, undertaking visits, and progressing plans in line with relevant legislation, regulations and professional standards.

Applicants must hold a recognised Social Work qualification and be registered with Social Work England. Experience of working with looked-after children, care leavers or within statutory children’s services is essential, along with a sound understanding of safeguarding, corporate parenting, permanence planning and child development. You will need strong assessment, communication and report-writing skills, the ability to manage competing priorities, and confidence working both independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team. A child-centred, solution-focused approach is essential, as is a commitment to anti-discriminatory practice and continuous professional development. The successful candidate will receive ongoing supervision and opportunities to develop their practice within a supportive professional environment.
