An experienced and committed Children’s Team Manager is sought to lead a Multi-Agency Safeguarding Hub (MASH) team in Wigan. This is an opportunity for a qualified social work professional to provide strong, visible leadership within a fast-paced environment, ensuring children and families receive timely, proportionate and effective support. You will oversee the quality and consistency of practice, promote a child-centred approach and help ensure that safeguarding concerns are assessed and responded to in line with relevant legislation, policies and professional standards.
You will manage, support and develop a team of social workers and other practitioners, providing regular supervision, reflective practice, case oversight and performance feedback. Key responsibilities will include reviewing referrals, overseeing screening and information-sharing, applying thresholds for intervention, allocating work appropriately and ensuring that assessments and decisions are completed within required timescales. You will work closely with partner agencies, including education, health, police and wider children’s services, to gather and analyse information, coordinate effective responses and promote positive outcomes. The role will also involve contributing to service improvement, monitoring performance, managing risk and ensuring accurate, high-quality recording and case management.
Applicants must hold a recognised social work qualification and current professional registration, with substantial post-qualification experience in children’s social care and safeguarding. Previous experience of supervising or managing social work staff, ideally within a MASH, front-door or referral and assessment setting, is essential. You will need a sound understanding of child protection practice, statutory frameworks, information governance and multi-agency working, together with the ability to make balanced decisions under pressure. Strong communication, organisation and analytical skills are required, alongside a commitment to equality, continuous improvement and achieving the best possible outcomes for children and families. A satisfactory enhanced background check and evidence of the right to work will be required.
