Children's Independent Reviewing Officer

We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Children’s Independent Reviewing Officer (IRO) to join our dynamic team in the Qualified Social Work field. This vital role involves ensuring that the voices of children and young people are heard and that their needs are met within the care system. The ideal candidate will be committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, working collaboratively with local authorities, social workers, and other professionals.

As a Children’s Independent Reviewing Officer, your key responsibilities will include:

  • Conducting regular reviews of care plans for children and young people in care, ensuring they are appropriate and effective.
  • Facilitating and chairing independent reviews, ensuring all participants can contribute meaningfully.
  • Monitoring and evaluating the quality of care provided to children, identifying areas for improvement.
  • Building strong relationships with children, families, and professionals to advocate for the best outcomes.
  • Preparing detailed reports and documentation for each review, maintaining accurate records in compliance with regulations.

To be considered for this role, candidates must possess the following essential qualifications and skills:

  • A recognized social work qualification (CQSW, DipSW, or equivalent).
  • Registration with Social Work England (or relevant regulatory body).
  • Significant experience working with children and families, particularly within the child protection or looked-after children sector.
  • Strong analytical and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with children and diverse stakeholders.
  • Excellent organizational skills and the capacity to manage multiple cases simultaneously.
