Children's AP - Child Protection Team - Derbyshire
We are seeking an experienced and committed Children’s Advanced Practitioner to join a Child Protection Team supporting children, young people and families across a local community. This is an opportunity for a qualified social worker with strong child protection experience to provide effective, strengths-based practice and help achieve positive, lasting outcomes for children. You will manage a complex caseload, undertake assessments, develop and review plans, and ensure that children’s voices, wishes and feelings remain central to all decisions.
You will work closely with children, parents, carers and partner agencies to identify risk, promote safety and reduce harm. Responsibilities will include completing statutory visits, preparing reports for child protection conferences and court proceedings, contributing to strategy discussions, and taking appropriate action where safeguarding concerns arise. You will also support permanence planning, maintain accurate case records and ensure that work complies with relevant legislation, policies and professional standards. As an Advanced Practitioner, you will provide guidance and practice support to colleagues, contribute to reflective supervision, and help promote high-quality, consistent social work across the team.
You must hold a recognised Social Work qualification and be registered with Social Work England, with substantial post-qualifying experience in children’s social care and child protection. You will have sound knowledge of safeguarding procedures, relevant legislation and evidence-based social work practice, together with the confidence to make well-informed decisions in complex and demanding situations. Excellent communication, organisation and report-writing skills are essential, as is the ability to build constructive relationships and work effectively within a multi-agency environment. A commitment to anti-discriminatory practice, continuous improvement and achieving the best outcomes for children is required. A current driving licence and the ability to travel for work may also be necessary.
