Caritas Recruitment is supporting Tameside Adult Social Care to recruit a Permanent Section 117 Mental Health Social Worker as part of the Greater Manchester Collaboration.
This is a unique opportunity to join a forward-thinking Adult Mental Health service, leading on Section 117 responsibilities and driving high-quality support planning, reviews, and community integration.
⚠️ Must have Section 117 experience and a minimum of 2 years post-qualified experience
Salary
£39,862 - £45,091
The Role
You will take a lead role in managing and delivering Section 117 aftercare responsibilities, ensuring individuals receive effective, person-centred support following discharge from hospital.
Working within a multi-disciplinary environment, you will promote independence, ensure statutory compliance, and support positive long-term outcomes through strengths-based practice.
Key ResponsibilitiesLead Care Act reviews for individuals subject to Section 117Deliver effective care management, including ongoing monitoring and eligibility reviewsMaintain accurate and compliant records using LAS systemsSupport hospital discharges, working closely with health partners and attending MDT meetingsPromote independence through strengths-based and community-focused approachesReview eligibility and manage discharge from Section 117 in partnership with ICB colleaguesProvide expert advice and guidance to colleagues on Section 117 responsibilitiesContribute to service development, policy, and best practice within the GM collaborationAbout YouQualified Social Worker registered with Social Work EnglandMinimum of 2 years post-qualified experienceProven experience working with Section 117 (essential)Strong knowledge of the Care Act 2014, Mental Health Act 1983, and safeguardingExperience working within Adult Mental Health servicesExcellent communication and partnership working skillsCommitted to strengths-based, person-centred practiceWorking Pattern & BenefitsFull-time, Monday to Friday (36 hours per week)Flexible working with approximately 1 day per week working from homeRegular supervision, peer support, and joint training opportunitiesAMHP training available if not already qualifiedAdditional £82 per shift for AMHP rota (once qualified)Generous annual leave entitlement (up to 31 days depending on service)Local Government Pension Scheme and comprehensive staff benefitsWhy Apply?Specialist role focusing on Section 117 leadership and expertiseOpportunity to influence practice and service developmentStrong partnership working across health and social careSupportive, collaborative team with ongoing professional development
