We are seeking a qualified social work professional to join a children’s safeguarding team as an Assistant Team Manager. You will support the Team Manager in delivering high-quality, child-centred services that protect children and promote their welfare. The role involves providing visible and supportive leadership to social workers, ensuring that assessments, plans and interventions are completed to a high standard and within statutory timescales.
You will offer regular supervision, reflective practice and professional guidance, helping colleagues manage complex cases involving safeguarding concerns, neglect, abuse and children requiring statutory intervention. You will assist with the allocation and monitoring of caseloads, quality assurance activity, performance improvement and the effective implementation of child protection and care plans. The postholder may deputise for the Team Manager when required and contribute to service development, audits, training and continuous improvement. You will work closely with schools, health services, police, legal professionals and other partner agencies to ensure coordinated responses that reflect the child’s wishes, needs and best interests.
Applicants must hold a recognised Social Work qualification and current registration with the relevant professional regulator. You will have substantial post-qualification experience in children’s social care, including safeguarding, child protection, looked-after children or care proceedings, together with a sound understanding of relevant legislation, statutory guidance and evidence-based practice. Experience of supervising or supporting social workers, managing risk and making defensible professional decisions is essential. We are looking for a confident communicator who can build effective relationships, provide constructive challenge and remain calm when working with complex and sensitive situations. A commitment to anti-discriminatory practice, participation, professional curiosity and achieving positive outcomes for children and families is required. Successful applicants will be subject to appropriate employment and safeguarding checks.
