Not essential to live in Cornwall but will need the ability to be able to visit as needed - this could be perhaps once a week dependent on what is needed on each case. Unlikely need to visit more than twice weekly

Title of Position to be filled. Social worker (agency)

Hybrid working - we have an office base in Truro but work can be undertaken from home base on some days. Our team covers Truro and surrounding areas - up to about 10 mile radius, some areas are more rural with limited public transport

What skills are required for the job?

Experienced social worker in adult services.Worker will have experience and skills in undertaking adult safeguarding enquiries, gathering information on needs, risks, multi agency working to mitigate risks, gather information from individuals related to Making Safeguarding Personal.To complete capacity assessments as required as part of safeguarding work.To write up enquiries in a timely way/within given timescales, having analysed the information and made recommendations.There may be other asks of the agency worker, including Care Act assessments, support plans, MCAs, team duty cover but the primary work will relate to safeguarding enquiries.

Agency worker must have access to a vehicle and be able to undertake visits to individuals as required, although this is unlikely to be on a daily basis due to the nature of the work.

Some work can be undertaken via phone calls, Teams meetings

Cornwall Council is seeking qualified Social Workers to join their Children's Services, specifically within the Child Protection Teams. These teams are dedicated to safeguarding the welfare of vulnerable children and young people in Cornwall.

Key Responsibilities:

* Assess, monitor, and review the social care needs of children, their families, and carers, arranging appropriate care services as necessary.

* Utilize specialist communication skills to gather comprehensive information, conducting full assessments of risks and protection needs.

* Develop individual care plans based on assessed needs and risks, collaborating with other agencies to ensure child protection.

* Manage an agreed caseload, offering support and guidance, and regularly reassessing care packages to ensure their effectiveness.

* Work with children in need, those subject to Child Protection plans, and cases within the Public Law Outline (PLO) framework.

Requirements:

* Registration with Social Work England.

* Previous experience in a social care environment, demonstrating a proven track record of improving children's lives.

* High level of written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to build effective professional relationships with families and other professionals.

* Knowledge and understanding of relevant legislation, models, and theories pertinent to children's social work, with evidence of application in practice.

* Ability to undertake assessments and use evidence-based practice tools to devise, implement, and review care plans.

About the Role:

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Children's Social Worker to join our Locality Team. This role involves working directly with children, young people, and their families to provide support, safeguard welfare, and improve outcomes. You will be responsible for managing a varied caseload, conducting assessments, and working collaboratively with multi-agency teams to implement care plans.

Key Responsibilities:Conduct assessments of children and families under the Children Act 1989 and related legislation.Develop, implement, and review care plans tailored to the needs of children and families.Work in partnership with families, carers, and external agencies to ensure effective intervention.Manage a diverse caseload, ensuring statutory deadlines and best practice guidelines are met.Provide direct support, advice, and intervention to children and their families to promote stability and development.Lead on child protection and safeguarding cases, conducting risk assessments and ensuring timely interventions.Attend and contribute to case conferences, reviews, and court proceedings where required.Maintain accurate and up-to-date case records in line with local authority policies and regulatory standards.Requirements:Degree or equivalent qualification in Social Work (e.g., BA, MA, or DipSW).Registration with Social Work England.Proven experience in children's social work, particularly within a locality or frontline team.Strong understanding of child protection, safeguarding, and relevant UK legislation.Ability to work effectively in a multi-agency environment.Excellent assessment, analytical, and decision-making skills.Ability to manage a demanding caseload while meeting statutory requirements.Strong written and verbal communication skills.Full UK driving license (desirable but not essential).
