Job description


The required post is for a Children's Independent Reviewing Officer who will be soley responsible for chairing statutory reviews of Local Authority foster carers.

Key Accountabilities

1. To chair and record statutory reviews of Local Authorityfoster carers.

2. To seek and promote the active consultation andparticipation of carers and their families, children, youngpeople, parents, and significant others in the reviewingprocess.

3. To promote good professional practice and the bestinterests of Looked After children. In particular to conductReviews as per Reg 28 of Fostering Regulations 2011.

4. To be aware of other meetings which inform the reviewprocess, such as Risk Assessment meetings etc.5 To accurately record review outcomes, records anddecisions within timescales.

6 To be familiar with IT systems and process reviewsonto templates provided.

7. To monitor the implementation of review recommendationsand decisions via the review process and draw to theattention of operational managers any areas of concernregarding practice, including non-compliance with agreedplans and practice, by use of the agreed Dispute Resolutionsystem.

8 To maintain good relationships and effectivecommunication with colleagues within both internal andexternal services.

9. To contribute to periodic reports for senior managerswithin the Department identifying any practice, process,procedural or systems issues.

10. To maintain an effective and up to date working knowledgeof policies, procedures, practice and research in FosteringService and to keep others informed as appropriate.

11. To seek and promote the participation of other agencies inthe review process by effective liaison and communication.

12 To ensure the provision and availability of appropriatepublicity and information available in relation to planningand review of foster households.

13 To ensure that the needs of all fostering families are takeninto account.

14 To attend other practice and organisational meetings asrequired.

15 To contribute to the development of the service andensure that objectives are delivered and outcomesachieved which address the Departmental/Service areaBusiness Plan.

16 To be responsible for continuing self development,undertaking training and contributing to team meetings andteam days.

17. To undertake any other duties which may reasonably beregarded as within the nature of the duties andresponsibilities/ grade of the post defined, subject to theprovision that normally any changes of a permanent natureshall be incorporated into the Job Description in specificterms.

It is essential that you have a recognised social work qualification - social work degree / diploma in social work and full HCPC registration.

To be considered you must have at least 5 years post qualified experience including recent and/or significant experience working in a similar statutory team.
