Southend-on-Sea City Council is seeking an experienced Locum Adoption Social Worker to join their dedicated adoption service. This is an exciting opportunity for a skilled practitioner to make a real impact in the lives of children and families by supporting all aspects of the adoption journey.

🔹 Key Responsibilities:

Undertake adoption assessments (e.g. PARs - Prospective Adopter Reports).

Provide support to adopters before, during, and after placement.

Contribute to matching processes and adoption panel reports.

Work closely with children's social workers, medical advisors, and legal teams to ensure smooth progression of adoption plans.

Offer post-adoption support, including assessing support needs and providing interventions.

Ensure compliance with relevant legislation including the Adoption and Children Act 2002, and statutory adoption guidance.

Attend and contribute to adoption panels and multi-agency meetings as required.

🔹 Essential Requirements:

Qualified Social Worker registered with Social Work England.

Previous experience in adoption social work is essential.

Strong understanding of adoption processes, legislation, and best practices.

Ability to work independently, manage complex caseloads, and meet statutory timescales.

🔹 Additional Information:

Rate: £38 per hour (umbrella)

Working Pattern: Monday to Friday, full-time

DBS: Enhanced DBS required

Start Date: ASAP

Hybrid working may be available subject to service needs

About the Role:

We're currently supporting a local authority in the Bedfordshire area looking for experienced Social Workers to join either their Fostering or Adoption team.

Both teams are well-managed and supportive, offering an excellent opportunity to join services that are committed to delivering positive outcomes for children and families. These are stable teams with manageable caseloads and an established structure.

You'll play a key role in either undertaking assessments, supporting foster carers, or progressing adoption planning and permanency.

Key Responsibilities:

Undertaking assessments and contributing to care or adoption planning

Supporting foster carers or prospective adopters throughout the process

Working closely with partner agencies and professionals

Preparing reports for panel and attending relevant meetings

Maintaining accurate case recordings in line with statutory responsibilities

What We're Looking For:

Experience within a Fostering or Adoption team is essential

Excellent assessment and report-writing skills

Ability to build strong relationships with families, children, and professionals

A confident, reliable practitioner who can work independently within a supportive team

To Be Considered:

You must be a qualified Social Worker with a recognised Social Work qualification (Social Work degree / DipSW / CQSW)

Registered with Social Work England

Must have recent experience working in a local authority setting in the UK

Enhanced DBS required

We are seeking a Temporary Social Worker to join our Fostering & Adoption Team, where you will play a vital role in shaping the lives of vulnerable children by providing robust, empathetic, and effective support to foster carers, adopters, and the children in their care.

👩‍👦‍👦 About the Role

As a Social Worker in our Fostering & Adoption Team, you will:

Undertake comprehensive assessments of foster carers and prospective adopters.Provide ongoing support, guidance, and supervision to foster and adoptive families.Ensure that all placements are child-centred, safe, and supportive.Work collaboratively across multi-agency teams to ensure the best outcomes for children.Be involved in pre- and post-placement planning and support services.Monitor placements to ensure children's safety, stability, and development.

✅ You Must Have

Minimum 5 years' experience working with children and families in a safeguarding team.Strong experience in child protection, child in need, and care proceedings.Experience supporting children at risk of CSE, CSA, and missing from care/home.Demonstrable ability to manage complex caseloads and meet statutory timescales.Confident working autonomously and within multidisciplinary teams.Direct work experience with children and families in a statutory setting.Valid UK driving licence.Enhanced DBS check (preferably on the Update Service).Social Work England registration (must be current).
